Playing Yahoo Chess Sunday 12th March 2006

Lots of people complain about the bad behaviour of others. I just found this blog site after trying to understand Yahoo Chess. There everyone bloghates people who play and run just to score points. I did notice that most people I played were reluctant to chat. The real issue is that noone knows who is from which cultural group. This makes starting a conversation really difficult unless you can bridge all these barriers. One good ploy to test the water is just say Hi. If your opponent doesn't respond either they are foreign or you need a different approach. Try considering their icon and username, maybe this will help suggest some other short catchy non-committal icebreaker. Folk who enjoy chess will talk to you eventually. You will notice that I have the cheek to place myself in the cultural group of dedicated chess players who just love the game for the sheer hell and scariness of the unknown.
My tip for those who have read this so far is smile and the world smiles with you. Good Luck with the chess.

I've given up playing on Yahoo now, its full of distracting adverts which you can't switch off! www.playchess.com gets my vote. Once you have aplayed a number of games you get free entry to all the tournaments. Watch out though "Bullet" chess is completely different!!!!

For those with John Peel interests here are the lyrics to Nina Nanesca's Bir of Cuzco :-

Oh Bird
you must be starving,
from your flight
so alone.
The wind,
the way it was blowing,
I feel lowly not
to have come.
Though the pounding of rain has flooded the dam,
I can offer you my
room you can sleep in.

Oh-oh-o-o-oh
let me take care.
Oh-oh-o-o-oh
let me be near.

Do you
mean to be saying,
to me
through a song?
Be pleased,
for everything's changing.
Be not angry
I have returned.
How I tire of waking from this dream.
Are we wired to be
always sad and lonely?

Oh-oh-o-o-oh
let me sing.
Oh-oh-o-o-oh
I love to sing.

(Instrumental)

I will lie here a while in the dark.
Let me lie here a while
just thinking in the dark.

Oh-oh-o-o-oh
leave me here.
Oh-oh-o-o-oh
let me sing clear.

Please let me know if you work out the tabs for the guitar or even the piano part?

Thanks

Remembering John Peel at this time of year - we miss your programs.
